15/02/08 Ozannes continue sponsorship of Youth Speaks Competition
Ozannes are pleased to announce that they have once again sponsored the Guensey Youth Speaks Competition - an annual public speaking competition organised by the Rotary Club of Guernsey. This year Ozannes were the sole sponsors of the event which was held on Tuesday 29th January, 2008 at St James from 6.30pm - 10.00pm.
Jessica Roland, Litigation partner, continued her role as one of the three judges on duty during the evening. Helen Wyatt and Teresa de Nobrega, two associate lawyers at Ozannes, also assisted by going into the schools and coaching the presentations.
Pupils at The Grammar School did the double this year with Year 10, The Intermediate Team, the overall winner and The Grammar Seniors also winning their age group.
The winning team will now go on to represent both Guernsey and the Channel Islands in the district finals Competition in Eastleigh, on Saturday 1st March 2008.
Eight teams entered but there could only be one winning team at St James on the night - and that was Imogen Wilson (as Chairman), Emily Atkinson (as Speaker) and Georgia Gover (as Proposer of The Vote of Thanks) who spoke on the subject of “Do U Hear Wot I Hear”, a presentation on the development of language over the centuries. Meanwhile, three separate prizes were awarded by Deputy Wendy Morgan, Deputy Minister for Education, to the following students:-
The Ozannes Trophy for Best Chairman – Laura Strawbridge of St Peter Port Secondary School
The Ozannes Trophy for Best Speaker – Charlotte Rihoy of Blanchelande Girls' College
The Ozannes Trophy for Best Proposer of The Vote of Thanks – Emma Swieton of Les Beaucamps School
Jessica Roland said "The standard of the participants was extremely high and it was an exceptionally close competition this year. We would like to congratulate everyone who took part and, in particular, The Grammar School whom we wish every success in the district final."
